ONID-TA® is a photocatalyst made of nano titanium dioxide that break apart water molecule when exposed to UV light, forming highly reactive species OH and O2-. Also, an electron is shift from the valence band to the conduction band.

Electrons are injected from TiO2 to the metal via conduction band. The potential is shifted more negative than the potential at which the metal begins to oxidize. The metal is thus protected from corrosion.
When exposed to light, the surface of the ONID-TA forms a layer of OH which make impossible for a drop of water to form on the surface. Instead, the water spreads flatly on the surface of the substrate.
Self-cleaning and decontamination:
Organic contaminant is decomposed by active species and the adhesion is decreased. It can also killed 99.99% of bacteria such as E-Coli and Staphylococcus. With rainfall or rinsing, the superhydrophobicity remove the contaminant.
